U.S. Files Lawsuit Against VP of Kennewick Industrial for Kickbacks and Fraud —10/3/11

The United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Washington has filed a false claims case against George Peterson, Vice President of Kennewick Industrial & Electrical Supply Inc. The U.S. alleges that Peterson engaged in kickback and fraud schemes, which led to defrauding the Department of Energy of hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Will Feds Join the $835M False Claims Lawsuit Against Huntington Ingalls?—9/29/11

The U.S. Government has yet to decide whether it will join the $835 million lawsuit against Huntington Ingalls. The suit, filed more than a year ago, was brought under the False Claims Act in the U.S. District Court in Washington D.C.. The complaint alleges that Huntington improperly spent the Hurricane Katrina relief funds given by the Government to instead cover costs related to shipbuilding contracts.

Hill-Rom Will Pay $42M in False Claims Act Settlement—9/28/11

Hill-Rom Holdings Inc. will pay $42 million in its settlement regarding Medicare fraud. According to the charges Hill-Rom billed for extended periods “without making any reasonable effort to determine if the patients for whom it submitted the claims continued to meet Medicare conditions for payment.” The whistleblowers will receive $8 million in rewards, announced the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Tennessee.

Improper Medicare Payments Waste Almost $50 Billion a Year—9/27/11

Improper payments cost Medicare $48 billion last year. Some even suggest that the total amount resulting in Medicare fraud is up to $100 million a year. Medicare officials say they have taken significant action, with federal spending on the fight against Medicare fraud, waste, and abuse.

Boston Scientific Corp. Guidant LLC will pay $9.25 for False Claims Allegations– 9/27/11

Boston Scientific Corp. Guidant LLC will play $9.25 million to settle false claims allegations, brought forth by a whistleblower, that the company defrauded the U.S. Government and private hospitals for heart pacemakers and defibrillators.  The whistleblower will receive more than $2.3 million from the settlement.
